The first four
In 1995 the spirits GIs Iki, Kuma and Ryukyu were designated; Satsuma and the sake GI Hakusan followed in 2005.
A nation's name, a town's name
In 2015 "Nihonshu" itself became a GI; since then designations for prefectures, districts and towns have multiplied.
